My favorite
part of the day is when I am under the water. Nine years ago, I
began scuba diving after taking a hiatus from the sport for twenty
some years. In the last nine years, I have been on diving
expeditions and taking video all through Central America, Hawaii,
Australia, Micronesia and Indonesia. It has been a fabulous
experience combining research with the incredible world in the coral
reefs. It has also allowed me to meet wonderful people all over the
world and experience first hand very different cultures in such
places as Papua New Guinea and Bali.
My Occupation:
After
graduating from CSU, I used my college career to ski bum for two
years, one in Colorado and one in Maine. Finally, after deciding it
was time to “get serious”, I began teaching science in high school
and middle school. Having a short attention span I then ran a
non-profit arts organization. When my children went to school, I
went back into teaching and combined it with research on symbiotic
relationships in coral reefs. Recently, I have launched a business
producing DVD’s primarily for companies and people in the scuba
diving industry.
My Family:
My son Mason
(29) is married with a one and a half year old daughter, Cassie. He
climbs trees, rocks and mountains for a living. For fun he
backpacks his daughter to the top of Tuckerman’s Ravine (a glacier
on Mt. Washington in New Hampshire) and then skis down. How great
it would be to have 29 year-old knee joints again!
My younger son Sam (24) began his first year in the world of an
engineer after graduating last year. His biggest shock was the
one-week vacation. He loves to ski and surf, but in Maine the best
waves are in the winter along with the very cold temperatures.
Blake, my best friend of eight years, has recently resigned his
high pressure job to pursue his art. He also is freelancing, using
his uncanny ability to tell stories and simplify things others are
trying to make complicated. He loves every minute.
Favorite Memories:
Friday nights
“cruising with the girls”, Farmers Barn and the music, poster
parties, Mr. Weatherbee, for being encouraging and accepting of our
art, Mr. Lyons, for letting us touch things in biology and Mrs.
Farwig for being a great mentor as a track coach and avid skier.
