My mother was Joan McDaniel, in your Wheat Ridge High School class of 1965. She was Judy Wyckoff's best friend. My mom went to Metro and became a registered nurse. She worked mostly at Lutheran Hospital, right down the street from Wheat Ridge High School. She married my dad and gave birth to myself and my brother in 70 and 74. She was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in 1985 and died several months after her diagnosis. She was divorced from my father at the time. I was 14 and my brother was 10. She died on September 22, 1985 and she is buried at Crown Hill, close to Judy and down the street from her beloved Lutheran and WRHS. I just wanted her to be remembered...when she was close to death she expressed her greatest fear to me...and that was her fear of being forgotten. I have made it one of my life's missions to help her be remembered. Thanks for allowing me to share this with you. I hope your class joins me in remembering her; she would be very honored and pleased. She'll be there in spirit! |
