What's Up:
Well, my
biggest joy comes from still being married (36 years) to my high
school sweetheart and fellow classmate Shannon Quinn. We met in the
cafeteria our senior year when she wandered in to sign up for a ski
club trip and I was the treasurer collecting money. I invited her to
the American Field Service Dance a few weeks later, then up skiing
with my family, and the rest in history. We dated through college
and then married.
We love to walk, hike, bike (rarely anymore), watch movies and
gardening. We’ve been blessed with a new home in Parker (4 yrs ago)
and we’ve taken on the task of the landscaping – doing the entire
yard in xeriscape and Colorado native plants to do our part in
preserving our Colorado heritage and its scarce water. Maybe in a
few years, it will be part of the annual Xeriscape Garden Tours. We
long to travel the US and parts of Europe. We are very active in our
church, teaching, mentoring, and prayer ministries.
My Occupation:
After leaving
WRHS, I attended University of Denver, received a BSBA in
Accounting, became a CPA and had a 16-year career in public
accounting. Since then, I’ve gone into the corporate world becoming
a variety of titles and roles in the accounting departments of
numerous companies from sales, gold mining, orthodontics
manufacturing, non-profits and natural beef. I’m still looking for
what I want to do with the rest of my career and how to make enough
money to retire – I’m jealous of all of you have already reached
that goal.My Family:
Shannon and I
have 3 wonderful children – 2 married daughters living in Omaha, NE
and Kiowa, CO and a single son living in Wheat Ridge (in Shannon’s
Mom’s old house). We have 3 grandchildren ages 13, 2, and 6 months,
and they are the little joys of our lives, keeping us young (well as
much as can be expected).
Our family is our priority, since we’ve become part of the “sandwich
generation”, doing regular babysitting of the Kiowa grandchildren
and having Shannon’s Mom living with us for the past 2 years (she’s
91). We’ll miss seeing you all this weekend – yup, babysitting
duties.
My brother Ron Hooper (WRHS 1967) and his family are living in
Sterling, CO.
Favorite Memories:
I remember Mr.
Harris and the choir and how proud we were to produce a record with
the band. I remember KIMN and Pogo Poge who broadcast in a snake pit
full of rattlesnakes and the like, until his chair broke and he fell
and was bitten (he survived) but that ended stunts like that one. I
remember “drag racing” in the back parking lot after school with
Shannon Wheeler in our “twin” blue Jeeps. I didn’t get into rock and
roll much; I was more into The Kingston Trio, Peter Paul and Mary,
The Back Porch Majority, The New Christy Minstrels, Pete Seeger and
Judy Collins (yea I loved folk music). But my best memory I already
told – my love at first sight encounter with Shannon Quinn Hooper.
