I love to play golf and follow the Broncos, Chargers, Rockies, Padres, Nuggets and Colorado Buffaloes. I run (old man shuffle) 3 or 4 times a week and have played softball and basketball over the years. Still playing basketball some in an over 50 league. Occasionally get out the saxophone and sit in with a local band.
My Occupation:
I own and operate Advantage Mortgage Group in San Diego. I suppose it's a logical evolution from earlier education and career endeavors in real estate and finance: Graduated from CU in Economics and Business in '72 after "keeping the world safe for democracy" during 1969 and '70 in Danang Viet Nam; Banker with FirstBank at Westland '73, Castle Rock '75 and Wheat Ridge '77. Real Estate Broker with Van Schaack '79 and Re/Max Professionals '83 before moving to San Diego area in 1989. Vice President of a mortgage brokerage firm in San Diego for 13 years before establishing Advantage Mortgage 3 years ago. We do residential mortgage brokering and banking.
My Family:
Married Sallie Speer in 1977. Sallie worked in the securities industry at that time and became a consultant for publicly traded companies when we started our family in 1979 with the arrival of Zack. Monica followed in 1980. Zack graduated from University of California at San Diego (UCSD) and is a digital media coordinator for Warner Bros. Music Group in LA. Monica graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and is an event planner at University of San Diego. Zack loves sports and music like his Dad and in 2000 captained the UCSD volleyball team to a National Championship. He played for a while in Europe and still stays in great shape playing both volleyball and basketball. Monica ran cross country and played basketball in high school and has competed in some triathlons. She studied in Spain for a semester and spent a year in Bangkok, Thailand teaching English an doing a campus ministry for Mission to the World. Both are pretty fluent in Spanish (which is getting to be a requirement for living in California) and neither is married. Sallie has been a realtor with Coldwell Banker for the past 12 years and we both still go to work every day.
