What's Up:
Our summer home is still 55 miles south of Jackson, WY. Our new winter
home is northeast of San Diego in Fallbrook, CA. Last night we attended
a concert at the Grand Teton Music Festival in Teton Village north of
Jackson, which is a must for anyone traveling in this direction.
Before the concert we rode our mountain bikes from Teton Village to
Moose Junction and back. The day before we hiked near our home in the
Bridger Teton National Forest and did yoga. Those are clues about our
favorite activities. In Fallbrook we are 11 miles from the Del Mar Boat
Basin at Camp Pendleton on the coast and cannot wait to take advantage
of the sailing there. More travel than we've been able to lately is
also preoccupation. Two winters ago we visited my cousin in Sydney;
Australia, took advantage of the Great Barrier reef and rainforest in
Queensland; and tramped on tracks in the Southern Alps in New Zealand.
Last spring I planned a trip to hike the Inca Trail to Macchu Pichu,
Peru, but my friends had to go without me, because of work commitments.
My Occupation: My husband and I (Klumas Associates) are
management consultants, most recently to the San Bernadino Community
College District in California, for major construction (bond programs)
on their two campuses. I am also a California attorney and Registered
Environmental Assessor, under the name Janet Dillon, Ph.D., Esq. My Family:
My daughter, also Janet Lynn, graduated from Seattle University last
month, with a degree in English and almost another degree in business
administration. She and her husband, who is a nursing student, live in
Seattle.
Some of you may remember my brother, David Etheridge. He was a
student teacher in band under Larry Wallace while we were in high
school and, most recently, he was a distinguished professor at the
U. of Oklahoma, where he taught clarinet and held an international
clarinet symposium for the last 35 years. Dave passed away
July 20 in Norman, Oklahoma from an aggressive form of cancer. His
funeral was July 28 at Crown Hill Cemetery. I called Larry Wallace
while Dave was sick and had a nice talk with Larry. I guess God
needed a new clarinetist in heaven. One of his students has written
on caringbridge.org/visit/davidetheridge that she will be bringing
her clarinet with her when she goes and will need a lesson when she
gets there. Look at the site if you are interested. Almost 5,000
people have visited it since he was put on there about a month ago,
and about 560 friends and family have left messages. If you have
an ill family member, I highly recommend the site as a way to keep
in touch with health status.
Favorite Memories:
Since the last reunion, which we attended, I have thought of many of you
more often. More time spent on remembering people rather than being
caught up in abstractions related to career, etc. I mentioned some of
you by name in my previous bio. Another is Winnie Mitchell. I marvel
that out of a handful of students from across the nation in the graduate
anthropology program at Yale, TWO of us were from Wheat Ridge High! Now
surely that says something! | |
