My husband,
Joe, and I used to enjoy camping, and 4-wheeling in our Colorado
mountains. I think that is where my love of photography started. I
love my digital camera and have taken pictures of local Habitat for
Humanity homes from groundbreaking to dedication, which they have
used in their booklets and on their web site. I also worked
extensively on a scrapbook and booklet that celebrated my church's
50th Anniversary last October. Many of the pictures had damage of
one sort or another and I was able to 'repair' them, having taken
some classes on Adobe Photoshop programs. I have family heirloom
pictures, some as far back as the late 1800's, that I have been able
to restore (at least they look better than they did!). I am using
them in conjunction with my family genealogy which has over 1500
people in it so far, dating back to the year 1066. I was diagnosed
with MS in 1985, which has greatly impacted the way I do some
things, but I am very grateful that I am able to do most of the
things I enjoy since new medications have come out.
My Occupation:
I worked as an
intensive care nurse for 25 years, then a home hospice nurse for 5
years before being forced to retire due to Multiple Sclerosis. One
learns quickly where most of the health care money goes....either
doctors or families that are unable to accept inevitable death.
Mucho money is spent keeping people alive who would not want to if
they knew what was happening to them & their bodies. Hospice gave
me an opportunity to be there for patients and families as they
approached death from a more dignified, pain-free side.
My Family:
I have a 26
year old daughter, Elaine, who is working her way towards becoming a
high school English teacher, and currently working at Sam's Club.
My 23 year old son, Mike, works for a company out of Broomfield
called Modular Interiors.
I have two active grandsons. Austin will be 4 in November, born on
his dad's birthday, and Devyn is 21 months. My ex-husband, Joe,
died suddenly when Austin was only 6 months old, so he has missed
all this joy. The boys are frequently at my house, so we have great
times together and they keep 'Grammy' hoppin', as well as keep the
camera rolling. The picture of Austin was taken at a
neighbor's...all the kids had great fun with that pile of dirt!
Devyn was busy seeing how the Desitin would work as a lotion when I
surprised him for this shot.
It is easy to become complacent with our lives until something
happens to shatter that tranquility. A few weeks ago we almost lost
Devyn when he fell out of his brother's motorized car on his head
and also got a GI bug with severe dehydration at the same time.
Thank God for the wonderful professionals at Children's Hospital, as
he is now back to his previous toddler self!
Favorite Memories:
I remember the
classroom and seat I was in when they announced JFK's assassination
as if it were yesterday. The basketball championship was beyond
belief!
